Paragraph – Nuclear Family and Extended Family In our society, we find two types of families namely nuclear family and extended family. Both types of families have their own merits and demerits. A nuclear family is a small one consisting of husband and wife and their children. As such, it is a small family. On the other hand, an extended family is a large family consisting of parents, children, grandparents, aunts and others. An extended family may also comprise a man, his several wives and their married sons and children. So, an extended family is a large family. In a nuclear family, as the number of members is small, it can be maintained properly. It becomes easy to meet the demands or basic needs of the members. A nuclear family has its own characteristics. A nuclear family is free from chaos. It is much quiet and peaceful. In a nuclear family, one feels lonely and bored but in an extended family, one always gets companions. The children of a nuclear family specially a girl cannot go out alone for want of security. In such a family, the parents can hardly get time to look after their children because very often both of them are service holders. Children cannot share their feelings with others. So, they become mentally upset. On the other hand, in an extended family, there are so many people to look after the children. But, in an extended family, one cannot enjoy all these facilities fully. Such a family is usually noisy and chaotic. Children cannot study attentively. It often becomes difficult to meet all the basic needs of the members. Consequently, the members may suffer from malnutrition and children may not get proper education. But if an extended family is well-off, the members can lead better life. Still, at times life becomes difficult here. Nowadays nuclear families are becoming more and more popular. Whether it is a nuclear family or an extended one, peace or prosperity of a family depends on its members.
