Music is a great source of entertainment for all ages of people. There are varieties in music. Folk music and modern music together play an important part of our music. But each has its own differences such as origin, style and listeners, besides their similarities. The first difference between them is the origin. Folk song is composed by general working class while each modem song is a product of an artist in personal. People are attracted to each kind by their own style. Folk music brings to us to the world of serene, beautiful countryside and benevolent people. Folk music is not influenced by any sophisticated music rules. It includes both religious and secular songs. Specially the village people are much attracted by such music. On the other hand, modern music is breaking all the traditional rules of music. Modern music mentions more various contents like happiness or sadness. Modern music may also contain social problems like protecting environment, saving earth.
All these are contents of real life. Some of the modern songs are so called market songs without meaning. As modern music often has modern topics, the listeners are mainly young generation and specially in the city areas. While the elders and the middle aged like folk music than modern music as they have liked these songs since their very young age. Folk songs are usually sung with traditional music instruments. It does not need so many instruments. It can be easily and instantly performed. Often one can sing such present such music using no instrument. But the case is totally different in modem music. Such music is presented by western instruments. For presenting such music much preparation is needed. Modem music changes with time but folk music has been able to maintain its originality. Modern music does not care much in fusing any other music with it. Actually both form of music has their own value and importance to their listeners. Whatever may be the differences, people are entertained by both modern music and folk music.

সঙ্গীত সব বয়সের মানুষের জন্য বিনোদনের একটি বড় উৎস। সঙ্গীতে বৈচিত্র্য রয়েছে। লোকসঙ্গীত এবং আধুনিক সঙ্গীত একসাথে আমাদের সঙ্গীতের একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ। কিন্তু প্রত্যেকেরই নিজস্ব পার্থক্য রয়েছে যেমন উৎপত্তি, শৈলী এবং শ্রোতারা, তাদের মিল ছাড়াও। তাদের মধ্যে প্রথম পার্থক্য হল মূল। লোকগীতি সাধারণ শ্রমিক শ্রেণীর দ্বারা রচিত হয় যখন প্রতিটি মডেম গান ব্যক্তিগতভাবে একজন শিল্পীর একটি পণ্য। মানুষ তাদের নিজস্ব শৈলী দ্বারা প্রতিটি ধরনের আকৃষ্ট হয়. লোকসংগীত আমাদের কাছে নিয়ে আসে নির্মল, সুন্দর গ্রামাঞ্চল এবং পরোপকারী মানুষের জগতে। লোকসঙ্গীত কোন পরিশীলিত সঙ্গীত নিয়ম দ্বারা প্রভাবিত হয় না। এটি ধর্মীয় এবং ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ উভয় গানই অন্তর্ভুক্ত করে। বিশেষ করে গ্রামের মানুষ এ ধরনের গানের প্রতি অনেক বেশি আকৃষ্ট হয়। অন্যদিকে, আধুনিক সঙ্গীত সঙ্গীতের প্রচলিত সব নিয়ম ভেঙে দিচ্ছে। আধুনিক সঙ্গীত সুখ বা দুঃখের মতো আরও বিভিন্ন বিষয়বস্তু উল্লেখ করে। আধুনিক সঙ্গীতে পরিবেশ রক্ষা, পৃথিবী রক্ষার মতো সামাজিক সমস্যাও থাকতে পারে।
এই সব বাস্তব জীবনের বিষয়বস্তু. আধুনিক গানের কিছু অর্থ ছাড়াই তথাকথিত বাজারের গান। যেহেতু আধুনিক সঙ্গীতে প্রায়শই আধুনিক বিষয় থাকে, তাই শ্রোতারা প্রধানত তরুণ প্রজন্ম এবং বিশেষ করে শহরের এলাকার। যদিও প্রবীণ এবং মধ্যবয়সীরা আধুনিক গানের চেয়ে লোকসংগীত পছন্দ করেন কারণ তারা তাদের ছোটবেলা থেকেই এই গানগুলি পছন্দ করেন। লোকগান সাধারণত ঐতিহ্যবাহী বাদ্যযন্ত্র দিয়ে গাওয়া হয়। এত যন্ত্রের দরকার নেই। এটা সহজে এবং অবিলম্বে সঞ্চালিত করা যেতে পারে. প্রায়ই কেউ কোন যন্ত্র ব্যবহার করে এই ধরনের বর্তমান সঙ্গীত গাইতে পারে। কিন্তু মডেম মিউজিকের ক্ষেত্রে ব্যাপারটা সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা। এই ধরনের সঙ্গীত পশ্চিমা যন্ত্র দ্বারা উপস্থাপিত হয়। এ ধরনের সঙ্গীত পরিবেশনের জন্য অনেক প্রস্তুতির প্রয়োজন হয়। সময়ের সাথে সাথে মডেম মিউজিক পরিবর্তন হলেও লোকসংগীত তার মৌলিকত্ব ধরে রাখতে সক্ষম হয়েছে। আধুনিক মিউজিক অন্য কোন মিউজিকের সাথে মিশে যাওয়াকে খুব একটা গুরুত্ব দেয় না। প্রকৃতপক্ষে উভয় ধরনের সঙ্গীতই তাদের শ্রোতাদের কাছে তাদের নিজস্ব মূল্য এবং গুরুত্ব রয়েছে। পার্থক্য যাই হোক না কেন, আধুনিক সঙ্গীত এবং লোকসংগীত উভয়ের দ্বারাই মানুষ বিনোদিত হয়।
